Investigación y Tecnología de Uva de Mesa (ITUM) was established in 2002 in Murcia, Spain. ITUM are engaged in the production and development of new table grape varieties and was created following the demand from producers and traders to gain access to innovative technology. ITUM is comprised of 24 companies and they are responsible for 90 percent of the table grape production in the region.

ITUM export several varieties of grapes to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Peru. A collaboration agreement was established between ITUM and the Murcia Research Institute of Agricultural Development and Food (IMIDA), with the objective to produce tasty, healthy and commercial seedless varieties.

“Between 10,000 and 15,000 new hybrids are produced annually. We have worked with more than 120,000 hybrids over the years and have recently obtained 14 new varieties. The new varieties are white, red, purple and black grapes. The key unqiueness to these grapes is that they do not need colour treatment.” said Manuel Tornel, researcher at ITUM and IMIDA. ITUM are passionate about using natural solutions to protect crops and promote soil health. To achieve their objectives, they work closely with Alltech Crop Science.
