James R. Allen was born a farmer on the family farm in rural Homer, Illinois, where his father, uncles and grandfather raised grain and livestock. He has shared his love of the land and animals with his wife and two children, who are all in agriculture (his wife teaches animal science at a university, his daughter teaches high school agriculture and his son works at John Deere). Jim has farmed his entire life, and his dream is to extend the privilege to his heirs. He wakes before sunrise to feed the beef cattle and continues to work until after dark. He is beyond retirement age, but has no desire to leave his profession. Farming is his life, his love and his legacy. I am sure there are many like him, but he is my hero.
James is competing in Alltech’s Favorite Farmer contest. The photo with the most likes on our Facebook page will win a trip to ONE: The Alltech Ideas Conference in Lexington, Kentucky. There, the winner will have the opportunity to meet farmers and other agriculture leaders from around the world.
